Company History

In September 2003, Richard Beattie (a mechanical engineer and MBA) and Fred Kawa (an industrial engineer and LEED® Accredited Professional) combined their talents, resources, and business connections to start Mechanical Engineering & Construction Corporation (MEC²). One of the first projects that MEC² was involved in was rebuilding the E-ring at the Pentagon. Since that time, MEC² has evolved into one of the industry’s leading mechanical firms already in possession of several industry awards.

The company has grown through its success into 150 tradesmen on staff and two locations serving the Maryland, Washington D.C., and Northern Virginia markets. MEC² has serviced not only commercial, institutional, and government clients, but has also been on the leading edge of the green building movement with two LEED® Accredited Professionals on staff and several certified green buildings completed. MEC² has won several industry awards for LEED® projects.
